Abstract

This report describes the results from field observations of travel times, speeds, and weather conditions on motorways in the Netherlands. The observations are intended for the validation of both road section monitoring algorithms and prediction models. These algorithms take as input loop detector data. The algorithms produce estimates indicating the presence of congestion, and estimates for travel times. The observations will be used in the DRIVE II General European Road Data Information Exchange Network (GERDIEN) project for the validation of road section monitoring algorithms. The observations will be used in the DRIVE II DYNA project for the validation of prediction models. The report describes both the preparation and realization of the observations. A description is given of the final data files and their accessibility. The Appendices contain relevant background information such as congestion reports by both the traffic police and by motoring organizations. See also IRRD 867592 (= C 2982)
