Abstract

During the period from 1978 to 1988 the volume of traffic has clearly increased. This increase of mobility causes traffic delay during peak hours. the peak concept is a central item in models for traffic prediction and transport policy. The number of trips has increased during peak hours by 30%. That produces a longer period with a high level of trips. These findings are a stimulus to reconsider the peak concept.
