Abstract

The shock absorption behaviour of five different commercial types of helmets was investigated using two different test methods and varying the anvilshape and dropping height. The influence of protective padding on the characteristics is described. Based on the measurement of the force and de-formation the reversible and irreversible part of energy absorption by the helmet was determined. The results of both test methods is compared.
