Abstract

Before and after studies were carried out in two middle-sized towns where new parking regulations had been introduced. The number of cars being parked in the city centres decreased by 22 and 35% respectively (all trip purposes included; for 'shopping’ there was a decrease of 25% in both cases, and for 'work' the figures were -25% and -60%). Walking distances for shoppers went down by some 25%.
