Abstract

In the planning of service roads for residential areas, one has to decide which type of road is most appropriate: dead end side streets or U-shaped streets. In order to evaluate both types of streets, theoretical and empiric research has been conducted. The findings indicate no clear preference for one type in particular. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages.
