Abstract

In order to make traffic in residential areas more safe, long straight residential streets were interrupted and traffic situations at junctions were simplified by such measures as: road closures, one way traffic, reconstruction of junctions, and priority rules. The results are a 46% reduction of accidents for residential streets and a 16% reduction for main roads. Extensive accident numbers are given.
