Abstract
On the occasion of Prof.Ir.J. Volmuller's retirement as a professor of "Traffic Science" at the Technological University of Delft on October 9th, 1981, professors and members of the scientific staff associated with the relative discipline have written an essay, which have been published under the title: Traffic and transport in an historical perspective. A.o. attention has been paid to the historical and (possible) future developments in the field of traffic engineering, transport economy, road-construction, public transport; model systems, traffic-control techniques, as well as traffic safety.
