Abstract

In nearly all urban areas traffic is a growing threat to a pleasant and safe living environment. The causes are the high speeds, the great number and the lack of space for certain traffic systems. The properties of the various traffic systems are discussed. Then the experience of speed by the human being is examined and finally how the design of road planning could prevent the adverse effects of traffic on the living environment.
