Abstract

It looks so self evident: a safe traffic is mainly determined by the visual perception of the road user. The possibilities, but also the impossibilities of our visual capacity have consequences for our traffic environment. Traffic engineers should understand therefore the working of visual processes. They can not confine to judge their design on the drawing board as a ground- plan. They should judge their design with the eyes of a road user.
