Abstract

When RW 269 was reconstructed it was widened and new sets of traffic lights were put up within the built-up area of Aalst. Two strategic sites were chosen for automatic traffic counters. Based on traffic volumes (20 000 vehicles/day) and preprogrammed criteria a coordinator and a program choice unit select a specific program for the five junctions. Traffic through Aalst can now be handled in 41 different ways.
