Abstract

Traffic restraint can be a valuable instrument in a policy aimed at diminishing the negative effects of motor-car traffic in urban networks. Different strategies can be compared nowadays in a sophisticated way and presented to the policy-makers. A reconsidering of policy must be made after an analysis of bottlenecks. Whether the authorities are prepared to "close traffic" must be stated early.
