Abstract
Traffic signs provide information to the road users. They show the local traffic rules and make clear which behaviour is ordered and which is prohibited. However, from the society opinions arise that there is something very wrong with the nowadays system of traffic signs. There are too many signs, which are not clear, not regular, superfluous and not longer complied with. An inventory is made from the literature to look if a big quantity of information given by traffic signs can have a negative influence on traffic safety.
