Abstract
A traffic sheriff and a police traffic consultant deal with the legal aspects of speed humps. They express their doubts about the effectiveness of humps and discuss the criteria on which they are applied and the possible effects on traffic safety The authors state that, in their opinion, legal regulations rule out the construction of humps outside "woonerf"-areas. They plea for more extensive reconstruction of existing street lay-outs into "woonerf"-shape.
