Abstract

It is pointed out that there are possibilities for the Dutch inhabitants to complain to the road administrator, usually the local authority, when they are bothered by traffic hindrance in their-living environment. Despite these possibilities, they have sometimes the feeling that their complaints are not taken seriously. Because of this, many inhabitants have turned to the "Research Shop" of the University of Delft for help. As a result of this action, this manual has been produced by the Planning, Design and Organization Section of the University of Delft. The manual contains an overview of possibilities for participation and provides evaluation methods and traffic solutions with regard to many sources of annoyance, such as: (1) lack of traffic safety: accidents and near accidents; (2) accessibility: working of barriers and "non-crossability"; and (3) environmental pollution: noise pollution, air pollution, vibration and visual hindrance.
