Abstract

Based on a literature study and interviews with experts, this report discusses the possibilities to use traffic models in road safety research. Research making use of traffic models is relatively new in the field of road safety. Traffic models have already been used for some time now for the evaluation of infrastructural and traffic management measures aimed at the traffic flow and travelling times. Traffic models in road safety research are mainly used for impact assessment of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and combining core data and Accident Prediction Models (APM) with a traffic model.
