Abstract
There are still few research results known on the influence of the reclassification and reconstruction of residential areas, and in particular of woonerven, on the performance of traffic accidents. In a before and after study 56 woonerven and 13 other, smaller, reconstructed and reclassified areas are studied. A high accident reduction occurs -when the roads are reconstructed as woonerven. Other less radical countermeasures have also a positive effect.
