Abstract

A pedestrian crossing with carriageway marking like a zebra-crossing and/or controlled with traffic signals is mostly constructed to enhance the traffic safety. If the lack of traffic safety however is considered as the chance to get an accident than such a construction has not the desired effect simply. This is shown from Dutch, German and Swiss literature, even when general conclusions hardly can be given due to the limits of the studies, Indications for insecurity on such crossings can be given.
