Abstract

Based on the number of claims submitted to a single insurance company, a calculation of the proportion of injury accidents involving Dutch vehicles abroad has been made. The figures represent an indication only, because it is not known to what extent the group of insured parties from the single insurance company is representative for the total Dutch population with motor vehicle insurance. The study is limited in scope. Future study will have to determine the circumstances under which the accidents took place. Of the injury accidents involving Dutch passenger cars, 7% was estimated to have occurred abroad: for vans and lorries, this figure was 14%. Most of the accidents occurred in Germany, France and Belgium.
