Abstract

In this report an experiment is described in which subjects had to drive in an instrumented vehicle and make three approaches and handlings of the motor-way roundabout nearby Joure in The Netherlands. During the rides heartrate was recorded and the view throught the windscreen was video-taped. The video pictures were shown to the subject in a debriefing session, where subjects could comment on their driving behaviour and performance. Furthermore, subjects completed some rating scales. The results show that driving on the roundabout demands effort from the subjects. Their driving behaviour near and on the roundabout is strongly influenced by the fact whether the subject is acquainted with the situation. The report concludes with some recommendations for adaptations of the roundabout.
