Abstract

Summary and review of results of various Dutch studies on the subject. Attention is paid to the following items: total number of visitors, number of visitors by car, maximum flow and parking demand. It is found that hypermarkets generate more car traffic per floor area unit than shopping centres do. Consequently parking demand there is higher. Also opening hours during the evening seem to reduce the Saturday peak parking demands.
