Abstract
Traffic control is going to be more than traffic signals on junctions alone; the big increase of the motorised traffic, the more intensive use of the road network, the other options of the car traffic inside built-up areas force to a conscientious control of the traffic flow; priority requirements for public transport force for the application of the most advanced control equipments; recent developments in the area of micro-processors give new possibilities.
