Abstract

Advice is given on road safety measures in the Beemster-Polder. The study of the road safety was twofold: (1) to recommend specific measures to improve the road safety in the Beemster-Polder and (2) to develop a method for research on road safety in rural areas. The method used here contained an intensive inventory of road characteristics, traffic and accidents, the calculation of absolute and relative safety criteria and a multivariable analysis of the characteristics. The insecurity of the Beemster-Polder is in an absolute way caused by high traffic densities; and in a relative way caused by a combination of the living and traffic function of the roads. Recommendations are therefore given for a segregation of living and traffic function and a diversion of high traffic densities to roads with a traffic function only. Tables and figures are presented in two separate volumes. See B 16208 and 16209.
