The 2013 annual analyses of the permanent automatic counting stations in Germany contains results on the traffic development on the federal trunk road network and detailed results for 1,502 counting stations. The federal states recorded and processed the data in cooperation with Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt); this was carried out under commission to the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI). The present investigation was based on data for 2013; the data were then subjected to an additional examination, analysed and compared with the results from the previous year. The annual distance travelled on motorways in Germany was 224.2 thousand million vehicle km; 108.4 were travelled on rural federal roads. The average daily traffic (ADT) reached 47,600 vehicles per 24 hours and 9,420 vehicles per 24 hours respectively. The relative variance in ADT values for 2013/2012, which is calculated using the permanent counting stations as a basis, averaged +1.0 % on motorways and -0.3 % on federal roads. This means that there was a variance of +1.0 % in annual distances travelled on motorways compared with the previous year, and of -1.0 % on federal roads. The results of the individual counting stations and the data on the location of the permanent automatic counting stations are also available on a CD-ROM as excel-table and ASCII-files.
