Abstract

English title: Road safety education in nurseries and primary schools. English abstract: The implementation practice of road safety education / mobility education in nurseries and primary schools will be determined by two Germany-wide surveys of 685 school teachers / 1,235 teachers. Nursery teachers are aware of their educational responsibilities with regard to road safety and prove to be open towards the respective concerns of the children and their living environment in the geographical surroundings. Matters such as safety education as well as the stimulation of perceptiveness and motor skills dominate in nurseries. The topic of child safety in vehicles is somewhat neglected. Community-oriented co-operations are widespread. In doing so, co-operation with the traffic educators from the police is central. There are serious deficits with regard to co-operation with primary schools. Teachers generally feel insufficiently prepared with regard to the topic of "traffic education / mobility education". The traffic education / mobility education in primary schools is in no way a peripheral topic. The teachers consider it to be important and addressing the topic is predominantly viewed in a positive manner. In terms of the utilised methods and the examined topics, the focal point is placed upon safety education and movement games. The potential of full-time schools is still insufficiently exploited with regard to traffic education content. There are information deficits with the teachers who are not responsible for road traffic safety, etc. The police, the road safety education association and the local transport operators stand out when it comes to contact, material sourcing and co-operations. The school-internal and school-external support and consultancy services are well-received. Only a minority of those questioned visited a traffic education course, obtained a respective additional qualification or participated in a further education course. The teachers indicate an interest in relevant further education courses. The report enumerates recommendations for actions with regard to the development of traffic education / mobility education in pre-primary and primary schools. (Author/publisher)
