Abstract

The most important requirements for optimum control of individual road transport is cited and present-day computer controlled traffic signals and signs discussed. Programmed driving is described whereby each road user receives individual route and speed instructions from a computer via a receiver in the vehicle before each junction. Problems of the automatic highway are dealt with, and reference is made to an experiment with a driverless vehicle on a special test track.
