Abstract

Local authorities must come in the short term to a re-arrangement of the dwelling environment, in such a way that the dwelling and residential function stays in focus. The car must fulfil its normal function, but the driving and parking behaviour of the driver must be applied to the environment. Such an application is only possible if it is always borne in mind, during the layout of the environment, that the driver is in a residential area. Besides the drawing up of a traffic and transportation plan, with emphasis on public transport and attractive cycle tracks and footways, local authorities must develop a parking policy. In this way traffic in old and new residential areas will remain acceptable. The covering abstract for the conference is IRRD no. 216265.
