Abstract

The authors discuss a provisional regulation in the netherlands by which a driving licence should be valid until the owner of the licence becomes 60 years old. Thereafter the licence should be renewed each 5 years with a medical examination of the driver. At present the licence is renewed every 5 years for all drivers. Drivers under 65 declare that they are physically able to drive. Drivers over 65 must be medically examined. It is concluded that the introduction of the new legislation will have no negative effect on traffic safety.
