Based upon two recent research projects among executive transport demand managers in areas and companies, the author proposes to readjust the course of transport demand management in the Netherlands. Transport demand management in the Netherlands has reached a phase where the organization of the subject has to be more demand-based instead of supply-orientated. It should focus more on facilitating companies who seriously try to tackle their own actual problems concerning transport. The transport demand management measures these groups of companies execute, appear to be more effective and more well-considered compared to those which are organized out of a general feeling of societal responsibility. So far, most efforts have been put in stimulating and increasing the latter group of companies. (A)
