Abstract

In the authors opinion developments in policy in the netherlands, governmental as well as local policy, indicate that the participation of the public in solving traffic problems is decreasing. Traffic safety on the local level and in particular participation by the residents is not given a high priority by the government. This is due to the lack of interest in what the public wants and due to the lack of money. This statement by the authors leads to their conclusion that a national organisation should be introduced for the help, financially, administratively and informatively, of the different pressure groups such as residents' organisations, traffic safety organisations, welfare associations.
