Abstract

By means of a specially adapted laboratory apparatus, the authors conducted a study of the forces which develop in the contact area between wheel and ground in the presence of wheel vibration. Reference was made to significant types of wheels and ground surfaces. The research thus helped to determine the laws governing this phenomenon, a knowledge of which is useful in the design of wheeled vehicles.
