Abstract

This paper discusses the tyre as an isolator of road irregularities from the suspension of the vehicle. These irregularities can be random or impulsive, and tyres of differing constructions exhibit characteristic vibration properties whose subjective acceptability can be affected by the vehicle suspension design. The tyre can generate vibrations owing to its non-uniformity, while the effect of speed on the forces produced is also considered.
