Abstract

Motorists who fail to "lock it and pocket the key" facilitate the thefts of their cars. But auto theft is a crime that unavoidably involves a third party: the automobile manufacturer. Any close investigation of patterns in car stealing reveals a link between automotive design and theft rates. The automobile industry and the insurance companies must make provisions to prevent or to make less easier the theft of cars.
