Abstract

In Virginia highway runway lights are developed to assist drivers crossing a mountain in the fog. The lights are set in the pavement edge at 200 feet intervals. Tests have been conducted to determine their resistance to snowplay blades. At present the light are manually operated, but plans for the future include sensing devices to activate the lights automatically.
