Abstract

Factors affecting visibility of objects and pavement markings in wet weather are discussed from the point of view of pavement surface texture and drainage characteristics. The effects of moisture on pavements are related to reflectivity and specularity in the presence of fixed road lighting and vehicle headlights as a measure of the extent that such conditions might prevail is proposed. The effects of splash and spray are compared with those of normal rainfall.
