Abstract

The vision of the future that is tried to outline here is the following. A stage of technology is gradually entered where driver perception will be interpreted and supported, rather than enhanced or augmented. This is a consequence of various successful- attempts at deriving computational models for perceptual and cognitive functions. The General Intelligent Driver Support (GIDS) system, briefly outlined here, constitutes one exciting example of this avenue into the future.
