Abstract
An analysis of the result of vision tests on 2574 drivers in Durban, South Africa showed that an average of 10% of the total had vision defects which affect driving efficiency. Stereoscopic vision was observed to be 14% defective, side vision 23% defective, and recovery from glare 20% defective. It is recommended that professional drivers should have their eyes tested every five years and commuter drivers, from the age of 45, every three years.
