Abstract

A survey has been made of 1964 literature on vision applicable to night driving. Medical problems of evaluating adequate vision for driving and compulsory vision examination of drivers are considered. Accidents, driver error measurements simulation methods and following behaviour are reported. Polarized light and its possible introduction was considered. Discussion extended to vehicle lighting and light placement, vision from drivers seat, vision standards for drivers, headlight glare, tinted glass, detectability and legibility of signs, colour vision, mental fatigue, vibration effects on humans, and drug effects on drivers vision.
