Abstract
The author argues the case for a computer-based inventory management package in the field of traffic sign maintenance. The critical role played by traffic signs and the problems of inspecting an entire network are outlined. The advantages of an inventory system and the way in which it could be implemented are discussed. The features that a system should include are listed. Points to look out for when choosing a software supplier are listed.
