Abstract

The use of fluorescent retroreflective sheeting is getting more important for the visual signaling. For the determination of the colourimetric properties of fluorescent specimens, an arrangement with two monochromators can be used. On the other hand, fluorescent surface colours are measured by using a spectrophotometer with a polychromatic illumination. On the basis of sensory testing experiments with test persons in the laboratory, a large range of different fluorescent orange and fluorescent yellow-green samples had been rated under illumination conditions simulating day light. The results of these ratings had been correlated with the measuring values of the two different measuring priciples. The result of this investigation gives recommendation for a practial characterization of fluorescent retroreflective sheeting. For the covering abstract see ITRD E123380.
