Der vorliegende Beitrag besteht aus Grafiken und Statistiken zur altersmaessigen Entwicklung der Bevoelkerung in Deutschland, zur raeumlichen Verteilung der Bevoelkerung und zur sozialen Situation im Alter. Unguenstige Geburtsraten und steigende Lebenserwartung verursachen eine Alterung der Gesellschaft. Dies fuehrt zu grossen lokalen und regionalen Unterschieden in der Bevoelkerungsdichte und Altersstruktur. Alte Menschen haben an ihre Umwelt veraenderte Ansprueche - junge und mittlere Alte suchen Stimulation, alte Alte und Hochaltrige Stuetzung und Schutz - und sie aendern zudem ihr Mobilitaetsverhalten. Dies erfordert eine entsprechende Anpassung der Verkehrsinfrastruktur. Verkehrs- und Infrastrukturplaner muessen auch die Zahlungsfaehigkeit aelterer Menschen beruecksichtigen. This natural process is subject to certain large- and small-scale conversions which result in dispersing population density and age structure on both local and regional level. Due to the fact that older people make different demands on their environment ("stimulation" versus "protection") and change their mobility behaviour with their age class, the planning and operation of transport infrastructure in an aging society should be adequate and very differentiating. Finally, traffic and infrastructure planners also need to reflect about future transportation supply within the scope of financial solvency of the retired generation. The lecture outlines the development of a general framework and the layout of the aging population and shapes the conference subject matter. (Author/publisher).
