In this paper, the authors put a question mark at the high hopes on bicycle use. In some investigations, bicycle use proves to have a growth potential of dozens of percentages. The authors, however, think that they may be glad with a conservation of the actual bicycle use. With the right measures bicycle use will only grow by a few percentages. The authors base this moderate view on figures from the inquiries that are held by the Dienst IVV (Department for Infrastructure, Traffic and Transportation) in Amsterdam. When looking at the figures from the past fifteen years, the results show, after an initial rise until 1995, a decrease in bicycle use again in recent years.
