Abstract

The increasing density of motor traffic makes it much more difficult for the pedestrian. Crossing the street and walking along the kerb are becoming more and more annoying. Traffic lights are mostly installed for improving the traffic flow but are a delay for the pedestrian. There are many obstacles on the kerbs, such as parking meters, traffic signs, lighting columns etc. The pedestrians have to endure the increasing violence of the other road users (parking of cars on the kerb, driving of bikes and mopeds on the kerb). Provisions for pedestrian safety made in the city of Tilburg are discussed. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD abstract no 247824.
