In 1969 the German Federal Diet decided that there should be a central institute for the coordination of research into road safety. A project group for accident research was established. The training and the activities of this group are discussed. The present situation in Germany and abroad (France, U.K., Netherlands, Sweden and U.S.A.) is described as well as the activities within OECD and NATO. The appendix presents a scheme of activities during 26 weeks, lists of home and abroad contacts, text of questionnaires, directions of the U.S. safety program and a summary of the activities of the Swedish "Samordnad Transportforskning".
