Abstract

Researchers at the Institute of Road Construction and Maintenance at Vienna University of Technology (ISTU), Austria, are using the software SAMSRoad, based on a VTI-algorithm, to generate the homogeneous sections needed in their pavement management system for the Austrian road network. SAMSRoad is also being used to look at selected parts of the road. It can automatically identify consecutive parts of the roads that are similar in respect to rut depth, skid resistance and longitudinal unevenness. SAMSRoad is viewed as a routine implemented in a statistical program package, although it is standalone software that can execute in batch mode and process large data sets fully automatically. SAMSRoad was written in JAVA programming language.
