Abstract

The influence of wearing a motor helmet on the detectability of sounds is investigated. Different Hertz tone bursts were used as signals, as well as claxon sounds. The just detectable signal level at a speed of 40 km/hr was determined by 11 persons. The set of helmets consisted out of 3 integral helmets and 15 jet helmets. The differences between the helmets are significant.
