Abstract

Antecedent to the installation of traffic signals a decision process takes place. To make a decision possible not alone on subjective principles some criteria are designed during the last years. Existing criteria refer always to 1. trafic intensity 2. traffic intensity on the crossing road 3. number of crossing pedestrians 4. accidents and 5. combinations of 1-4. To get a total judgement of the existing criteria other situations should be also studied and in particular how the waiting time develops on roads with a higher (70-90km/h)speed.
