Abstract

This action plan sets out measures from across UK government organisations to increase levels of active travel by creating places to walk and cycle in and influencing travel behaviour through training, education, marketing and promotion. Measures to improve the walking and cycling environment include land use planning, transport planning, rights of way improvement plans, improving liveability, designing streets for people, home zones, quiet lanes, and tackling anti-social behaviour. Planned improvements to facilities such as highways, access to public transport, and inland waterways are outlined. Ways of influencing travel behaviour by changing public perception, travel for education, travel to work, and education for motorists are described. Methods of monitoring the progress of the action plan are explained. (Author/publisher)
