Overspeed warning systems are increasingly being used. They are generally installed temporarily at dangerous traffic zones. PAT's SpeedVISOR system consists of an integrated radar unit for speed measurement and a red or yellow light emitting diode (LED) display. The percentage of drivers travelling in excess of the speed limit reduces significantly in the presence of the speed display boards. OptoSPEED is a new portable/mobile photo speed enforcement system that measures vehicle speed by means of passive-optical methods. It consists of a tripod-mounted sensor, system controller with touch-screen monitor, and optionally, a wet film of digital camera with flash unit. The system cannot be detected by means of radar and laser warners. The captured image can be transferred via a wireless local area network (LAN) further down the road to the point of stopping.
