Abstract

This paper studies the possible consequences of the Randstad Railway track plan upon Dutch Railways' public transport and upon the urbanisation in the province of South Holland. In this paper emphasis is placed on the possible consequences for public transport. Three analyses are made. The first one describes the proposed train services using network indicators. The second considers the location of the railway stations in relation to living and working areas. The third analysis considers the benefits in journey times. The Randstad railway offers more railway stations, more infrastructure and more possibilities for using public transport.
