Abstract

The validity of causal inferences drawn from panels is subject to a variety of threats which originate from the nature of panel-data and from the way in which they are traditionally structured for analysis. An alternative manner of structuring or arranging the data is shown to mitigate these threats and to yield a number of practical advantages as well. This alternative, wave-poling, is discussed.
